Nurse Residency Program

The best way to enter into clinical practice is through our residency program.

Transitioning from student to Professional Nurse can be intimidating. The Nurse Residency Program is designed to assist the graduate nurse in bridging the gap between theory and clinical practice. The primary goals of the program are to socialize and acclimate the new graduate nurse into the working environment and promote a smooth transition from graduate nurse into the role of professional nurse.

The program consists of:

  • Mountain States Orientation
  • Computer training
  • Attendance at a shared leadership committee meeting
  • Attendance at scheduled Nurse Residency meetings designed for interactive discussions with peers and skills review
  • Completion of the nurse specialty education tract

The Nurse Residency program is a 6-month program beginning in January and June of each year.

Because we care about this exciting, yet fearful time in the new graduate nurse's life, all new graduates are guided into practice by participating in the Nurse Residency program.

Graduate nurses will earn an excellent salary while gaining valuable patient care knowledge and skills. Nurse residents will work under the direction of an experienced clinical leader and clinical preceptor with a variety of specific expertise.

Program Goals

  • Progress from advanced beginner nurse to competent professional nurse
  • Develop effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgment and performance

  • Formulate an individual development plan as related to the new clinical role
